San Miguel de Allende is a magical and beautiful colonial city located in the Mexican Bajío at 3 hours from Mexico City and 1 hour from Queretaro and Guanajuato respectively. The name of San Miguel “the Great” was given by a Franciscan monk in 1542 and “the Great” was replaced by “de Allende” because Ignacio Allende national hero and protagonists of Mexican independence was born there.
